Manase Fainu facing charges for allegedly filming a sex act

MANLY reportedly promoted young star Manase Fainu to first grade for last week’s clash against Penrith even though the club was aware he is due to face court over allegedly filming a sexual act and uploading it to social media.

According to The Daily Telegraph, the Sea Eagles knew the 19-year-old was facing charges over the incident when they him his debut in the top flight.

Fainu allegedly deleted a sexually explicit Snapchat post when the woman involved called police after she was made aware of it. He was charged for the incident, which the NRL Integrity Unit is aware of.

It has been alleged Fainu and the woman engaged in consensual sex but she was unaware she was being filmed. The Daily Telegraph reports the police offence states Fainu “intentionally recorded an intimate image without consent”.

The teenager originally faced court over the matter in May, but he did not enter a plea and was granted bail. He asked his case be dealt with under section 32 of the mental health act, which is open to “a defendant who has a developmental disability, a mental illness or a mental condition for which treatment is available in a mental health facility, but who is not a mentally ill person”.

He will face Fairfield Local Court on August 7.

Manly can reportedly continue to select Fainu until his fate is determined by the court, but a guilty verdict may see his contract torn up.

Fainu was called up to the first grade side last week because regular hooker Api Koroisau was out with injury and Manly outcast Jackson Hastings was released from the club. Manly defeated the Panthers 18-10 in Penrith.
