Senior Director for Global Government and Corporate Affairs – Caterpillar

Steven has more than 20 years of experience across the communications landscape, advising some of the world’s largest companies on corporate reputation, crisis and issues management, public affairs and government relations. With a background working in high-level corporate roles, political campaigns, consulting, and at the White House.

Steven currently serves as on the leadership team of the Global Government and Corporate Affairs function at Caterpillar – the world’s leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, off-highway diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines and diesel-electric locomotives. In this role Steven directs a team across the US, Canada, Mexico and Brazil around advocacy efforts with policymakers and trade associations while helping to managing reputational issues and advise business leadership on political and policy developments.

Prior to joining Caterpillar, Steven was a Senior Managing Director at the business advisory firm FTI Consulting where he focused on supporting companies dealing with crisis, litigation and public affairs challenges. Before joining FTI, Steven served at the corporate office of ExxonMobil where he managed several public affairs portfolios including state government relations, global advertising, litigation communications and served as a member of the climate policy, investor engagement, and communications strategy teams. Before joining ExxonMobil, Steven worked at a global strategic communications firm, served in the White House Office of Political Affairs during the George W. Bush Administration, was a member of political team on the Bush-Cheney ’04 campaign and worked in the political department and Chairman’s office at the Republican National Committee.

Steven serves as an advisory board member of the UT Dallas Center for BrainHealth and the World Affairs Council of Dallas/Ft. Worth. Steven is a graduate of the University of Iowa where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and resides in Dallas with his wife (Molly) and three children (Mary, Sally, James).
