Dr. Stephen Gardner is professor emeritus of economics and international business at Baylor University. During his 45 years on the full-time faculty at Baylor, he served variously as director of the McBride Center for International Business, chair of the Department of Economics, interim director of the Center for International Education, the Herman Brown Professor of Economics, and a member of the Faculty Senate. He continues to serve as chair of the advisory board for Baylor’s Keston Center for Religion, Politics, and Society. Dr. Gardner was a recipient of the university’s Outstanding Tenured Professor award in 1994 and was honored as its Outstanding Professor for University Service in 2005 and 2023. Under his leadership, Baylor developed relationships with universities and research institutes throughout the world and offered business education programs in Russia and China. Dr. Gardner holds a BA in economics and Russian studies from the University of Texas at Austin and a Ph.D. in economics from the University of California at Berkeley. He is the author of three books, co-editor of one conference volume, and has published numerous articles in academic and professional publications. Dr. Gardner is a member of the American Economic Association and is a Fellow of the Salzburg Seminar and the IC2 Institute. He serves on the Texas Advisory Board of the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition.
